Mark M. Boie was born in June of 1967, and has been a resident of Union County for almost his entire life. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi in Oxford and his Juris Doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating law school, Judge Boie joined his father, Wesley L. Boie, in the general practice of law in Anna, Illinois. He also served as a conflict public defender in Union, Pulaski and Johnson counties.

He was elected the Resident Circuit Judge of Union County in November 2000, and was retained to that position in 2006, 2012 and 2018. While on the trial court, he presided over all types of criminal, civil, family, juvenile and mental health cases. Judge Boie was assigned to the Fifth District Appellate Court on May 1, 2019.

He is a member of the Special Supreme Court Advisory Committee for Justice and Mental Health Planning, and is Co-Chairman of its Compliance-Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code Sub-Committee. He is also a faculty member of the Judicial Education Conference and is a First Judicial Circuit Mentor for new judges.

Judge Boie and his wife, Emily, have three children – Nicolas, Kaelyn and Peyton.
