John Barberis was born in November of 1967 and is a lifelong resident of Madison County.   Barberis attended two years at Eureka College (college home of President Ronald Reagan) where he played basketball before transferring to and graduating from Illinois State University.  After graduating from ISU, John worked for the Madison County Probation Department as a Juvenile Home Detention Officer for two years.  He then enrolled at St. Louis University School of Law earning his J.D. from SLU in 1995.  He then went to work for a Collinsville law firm while at the same time becoming a part-time Assistant State’s Attorney for Madison County.  Shortly thereafter, he went into private practice while continuing on as an ASA for Madison County for another 13 years.  During his 18 years in private practice he handled many different types of cases.  For the last several years of his career John served as the City Prosecuting Attorney for Collinsville and Corporate Attorney for the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville.  Barberis was elected to the Circuit Bench in Madison County, Illinois in November of 2014.  He then ran for and was elected to the Illinois 5th District Appellate Court in November of 2016. Justice Barberis and his wife, Laura, have been married since 1990. They live on a farm outside the Village of St. Jacob with their three children; daughters, Jessica and Jordan, and son, John.
